As a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, the words of
Hebrews 3:5 struck me hard. The phrase “and Moses indeed was faithful in all his
house as a servant” describes how Moses fulfilled his God-given duty and
calling. He was faithful! Wow! What an honor to have the God of Heaven say that!
The same goes for all those mentioned in Hebrews 11. They had faith in God to do
the things that He called them to do (Abraham, Moses, David, etc..).
Now is the year 2004, and the Lord calls each of us to do specific work for “His
house as a servant” . From being a good spouse, sister, mother or daughter to
being the salt of the earth and reaching others for Christ. Each has their own
personal duty given to them by God. My question for each one of you is - are YOU
faithful in what the Lord wants you to do? Many times we find ourselves knowing
what we SHOULD do, but it gets put on the back burner and forgotten. This has
been true for me (to my shame) and I am willing to assume that is the same with
many of you. Oh, dear friend, be faithful in what God wants you to do!
The second part of the verse is equally convicting, “for a testimony of those
things which would be spoken afterwards.” We are all a living testimony. Whether
it is a testimony of faithfulness in Christ, by either word or deed, or whether
it is a testimony of one who does not have Christ first in their life. And yes,
it will be spoken of afterwards. People will see you and will talk of you. I
pray that people will speak of you as the women did of Dorcas in Acts 9:36 - 39.
I encourage you to read that passage
today. What are people saying of you now? The way you live your life now builds
the testimony your life will leave.
Each one of us has different talents that God has given us. He EXPECTS us to use
them, whatever they are. If you are not using them to glorify the Lord, then you
are not following His will for you.
I also believe that the second half of this verse has another perspective. When
the verse says “ for a testimony of those things which would be spoken
afterwards”, think of “afterwards” as the time when Christ comes again in all
His glory. When the Book of Life is opened and your life story (or testimony) is
read, will your life prove that you have been faithful as a servant of God? I
urge you to think hard and deep on this thought. I think that is something that
we ALL fall short of. I write this to encourage you all (as well as myself) to
strive to be a better Christian and to encourage you in your walk with Christ.
When our race on earth is done, and we enter the pearly gates of Heaven, may we
all hear our Master say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant ... enter
thou into the joy of the Lord.”
Again I urge you to read Acts 9:36 - 39 today, along with Revelation 20:11-15.
May the Lord draw each of us closer to Himself. God bless you all.
(If you have never heard the song “Find Us Faithful”, by Steve Green, I would
highly recommend that you listen to it. It is a powerful song with a convicting
message. )

in all His house as a servant,
for a testimony of those things
which would be spoken afterwards."
